Why is this good for the gut?
Our recipe for the Berry Breakfast Smoothie contains ingredients that can help to support a healthy gut.
Berries are rich in nutrients! They are a rich source of polyphenols – food compounds that gives the berries their rich natural colours, but also works as an antioxidant in the body, helping to keep free radicals under control. Polyphenols are thought to have a positive effect on heart health, as well as reducing oxidative stress in the body.
Including Bimuno DAILY in the smoothie helps to fuel and nourish bifidobacteria, a type of ‘good‘ bacteria in the gut microbiome. Bifidobacteria don’t just help to break down and absorb essential nutrients that the body needs, it has also been associated with modulating and supporting the immune system.
Plus, it’s a great source of fibre! 9% of UK adults don’t meet the 30g recommended daily intake of fibre (which includes 5g of prebiotic fibre), according to a study published on behalf of Public Health England. Bananas contain small amounts of naturally occurring prebiotic fibre, but Bimuno DAILY can be a great way to boost your fibre intake and help bridge the gap!
The oats in the smoothie are also very useful to the gut. Oats are a rich source of important vitamins and minerals such as manganese, which has antioxidant activity, helps to maintain strong bones and supports metabolism and brain function. They also contain phosphorus, a nutrient linked to bone health and energy metabolism, and copper, known to have antioxidant activity and support energy production.
There’s never been a better time to connect with your gut and the trillions of microbes that help your body to perform at its best. Feeling inspired? Click here to find out more about Bimuno DAILY, our convenient prebiotic supplement designed to give your good gut bacteria a helping hand.
