Recommendations of Usage & Preparation

Bimuno® DAILY POWDER easily dissolves in your favourite hot or cold beverage, whether it be coffee, smoothies, or fruit juices. Mix it in or sprinkle over your food, bake with it – anything that gets your appetite going! However you wish to include it, the choice is yours.

Recommended Daily Serving:

  • Adults and young persons 12 years of age and over: Take one sachet daily (3.65g).

    Bimuno® is a daily food supplement containing the unique, active ingredient B-GOS® (Galactooligasaccharide). B-GOS® works by selectively increasing the level of bifidobacteria and other health-promoting bacteria found in the gut.

    BIMUNO® IBAID - Take two pastilles, chewing each one separately and thoroughly before swallowing. For best results, take the two pastilles at the same time of day.

    BIMUNO® TRAVELAID - Recommended for when you are travelling  to countries where there is an increased risk of developing travellers’ diarrhoea. Take three pastilles daily, starting 7 days before you travel and continuing whilst you are away. For best results, take the three pastilles at the same time of day.

  • When should I take Bimuno®?

    Bimuno® can be taken any time of the day, as part of your daily routine. For maximum benefit, try to take it around the same time every day.

  • How often should I take Bimuno®?

    Some people take Bimuno® when they get GI symptoms. However, the majority of our customers take Bimuno® everyday and feel the benefits in their overall health & wellbeing.

  • What should I expect when taking Bimuno® for the first time?

    When you take Bimuno® for the first time, it will take 3 days to start feeding your bifidobacteria. 

    Days 4-7: You may experience some gurgling in your gut. This is a good sign as it means Bimuno® is beginning to change your microbiota (the bacteria in your gut)

    Days 8-14: Your microbiota is now changed and Bimuno® is feeding and nurturing your beneficial bacteria

    Published studies have shown that, with daily use, the majority of Bimuno® users experience an increase in their gut bifidobacteria within 7 days, although individual responses may vary.

  • Are there any side-effects of Bimuno®?

    Within the first week of taking Bimuno®, you may experience some stomach gurgling and rumbling which then subsides. This is a good sign, as it means Bimuno® is working.

  • Is it safe to take Bimuno® long-term?

    Yes, it is safe to take Bimuno® long term. We recommend you take Bimuno® as part of your daily routine, you then ensure an adequate number of beneficial bacteria thrive in your gut and help you maintain a healthy digestive system.

  • What is the difference between Bimuno® DAILY, Bimuno® IBAID and Bimuno® TRAVELAID?

    All Bimuno® products contain the unique active ingredient B-GOS® (Galactooligasachharide).

    Bimuno® Daily is a powder, which comes in an easy to use sachet. Just pour one sachet of Daily into your tea, coffee, juice or other drink, or sprinkle it over food every day.

    Bimuno® IBAID is in a chewable pastille form. A daily dose of Ibaid (2 pastilles) contains a lower dose than our Daily product and is recommended if you have sensitive digestion.

    Bimuno® TRAVELAID is in a chewable pastille form.  It is recommended that you take three pastilles daily, starting 7 days before you travel to countries where there is an increased risk of developing travellers’ diarrhoea and that you continue taking it whilst you are away.

  • Can I take Bimuno® with a Probiotic?

    Yes, you can take Bimuno® with probiotic supplements and yoghurts.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I am on a low FODMAP diet?

    Yes, there is evidence to suggest that the addition of half a sachet of Bimuno® DAILY or two Bimuno® IBAID pastilles can be taken with a low FODMAP diet.

  • Can I take Bimuno® with any other prescribed medicine?

    Bimuno® is a food supplement and not a medicine. On the basis of our scientific knowledge there should be no effect on other medications taken alongside Bimuno®.
    However, if you are uncertain, you should consult with your doctor or other healthcare practitioner before starting to take Bimuno®.

  • Why have you changed your website?

    We felt it was time to update our look. You may have noticed we have just changed the packaging on Bimuno® and we wanted our website to be in line with this.

  • Do I need to open a new account to buy from the new website?

    No, if you previously held an account with us, the details are exactly the same. Just login as before.

  • When I try to go into the section ‘For HCPs’, something pops up and says that this area is only for professionals. Why is this?

    We have created a section on our website where we hold information about clinical studies and also some technical data about the product. There is no consumer information in there and it is not possible to buy Bimuno® in this section.

  • Why have you changed the Packaging on Bimuno®?

    We have had the current packaging in the market for many years and we thought it was about time we updated our look.

    We think the new design looks more modern and stands out better on the shelf.

  • Are the contents of the new packs the same?

    The new packs contain exactly the same sachets as the old packs; we have not changed the contents.

  • I have seen the old pack still available in some places/I have seen a different pack available in some places.

    Some shops are using up their old stock of Bimuno® before putting the new packs on the shelves. It is quite likely that both the old and new packs will be for sale in different shops for the next few months.

  • Is it OK to use the Bimuno® products in the old packaging?

    Yes, the product in the old packaging is OK to use as long as it is before the Best Before Date on the bottom of the pack.

    Bimuno® is a daily food supplement containing the unique, active ingredient B-GOS® (Beta- Galactooligasaccharide).B-GOS®  is a second generation galactooligosaccharide produced from lactose, a component of cow’s milk.

  • Does Bimuno® contain sugar?

    There are small amounts of sugar in the final product, and this should be considered as part of the daily requirement of sugar allowed if you are a diabetic.

    No, Bimuno® is not suitable for vegans as its contains lactose.

  • Is Bimuno® suitable for vegetarians?

    Bimuno® DAILY is suitable for vegetarians.

    Neither Bimuno® IBAID nor TRAVELAID are suitable for vegetarians as they contain bovine gelatin.

  • Is Bimuno® Gluten-Free?

    Yes, Bimuno® is Gluten-Free.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I have a milk allergy?

    Bimuno® Daily does contain residual amounts of milk protein (Whey and Casein).

    Bimuno® Ibaid and Travelaid have been analysed for milk proteins and the results are below the limits of detection.

    On all our packs we are identify allergens in bold in our ingredients list.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I am lactose intolerant?

    Bimuno® contains lactose. However, the lactose content is well below that considered safe in most lactose intolerant people by the British Dietic Associate (BDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Who Can Take Bimuno®?

  • Can children take Bimuno®?

    Yes, children can take Bimuno®.

    Bimuno® DAILY is suitable for children aged 4 years and above. Children aged 4-11 years should take half a sachet.

    Bimuno® IBAID is suitable for children aged 12 and above.

    Bimuno® TRAVELAID is suitable for children aged 12 and above.

    Young children should always take Bimuno® under the supervision of an adult.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

    Yes, you can. Bimuno® is a food supplement and not a medicine. It is not absorbed but transits through the gut to the large intestine (colon).

    There is no scientific evidence to suggest any potential dangers from consuming Bimuno® during pregnancy, but you may wish to discuss this with your doctor or other healthcare practitioner.

  • Is Bimuno® suitable to take if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

    Bimuno® is generally regarded as safe to take even if you have existing medical conditions.  However, we do recommend that you first talk to your healthcare professional regarding any specific health conditions that you may have so they can advise you whether it is safe for you to take Bimuno®

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I have Coeliac Disease?

    We have had some positive anecdotal feedback from patients and healthcare professionals in regards to the efficacy and safety for people suffering with coeliac disease using Bimuno®. The scientific information available shows no potential danger to these individuals.

    We would, however, encourage you to discuss the use of Bimuno® with your healthcare professionals.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I suffer from Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)?

    There are currently no scientific studies on the safety and efficacy of Bimuno® in people with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and therefore we cannot comment on its use in this condition.

    However, from the scientific literature there is no evidence to suggest that it is harmful to take products similar to Bimuno® with other treatments for SIBO.  For this reason, we would suggest that you discuss this with your healthcare professional before taking Bimuno®.

  • Can I take Bimuno® if I suffer from IBS?

    Yes, Bimuno® is safe to take if you are suffering from IBS. In fact there is scientific evidence to show a reduction in some of the symptoms associated with IBS (pain, bloating, diarrhoea).

    However, due to the condition itself, you may find you have a more sensitive digestion and so should take either the full daily dose of Bimuno® IBAID (i.e. two pastilles) or half a sachet of Bimuno® DAILY.

    If you are unsure, you should speak to your doctor or other healthcare practitioner for further advice.

  • Can Bimuno® help with sleep disorders?

    The BBC programme “The Truth About Sleep” showed the impact on Dr Mosley of consuming Bimuno® DAILY POWDER.

    The programme explained the impact of improving fibre intake and the positive effect that this has on the good bacteria in your gut and inferred that this may improve sleep patterns.

    In the programme Dr Mosley discussed how his sleep patterns had improved whilst taking Bimuno® in the evening before going to sleep. It should be noted that no formal clinical investigations have been conducted to assess the impact of Bimuno® on sleep patterns.

  • Will Bimuno® interfere with chronic medication?

    Bimuno® is a food supplement and not a medicine; to the best of our knowledge, there are no described contraindications or interactions with medicines.

  • Can I take Bimuno® whilst undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy?

    Although we have not had any studies looking at the safety of Bimuno® in cancer patients during or after chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the scientific evidence suggests that it is safe to take supplements like Bimuno® during chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

    Bimuno® is a food supplement and not a medicine; to the best of our knowledge, there are no described contraindications or interactions with medicines.

    However, you should consult with your healthcare professional if you wish to take Bimuno® to help alleviate some of the gastro-intestinal side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and to improve overall gut health
