Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a common bowel problem affecting up to 1 in 5 people in the UK. Anyone can get it, at any age, but it is twice as common in women as in men and usually first develops during your twenties.

The symptoms of IBS vary from person to person. For some the symptoms can be an inconvenience but for others it can have a major impact on many aspects of day-to-day life. The cause of IBS is still unknown however research has shown that an imbalance between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria in the gut can play a significant role. IBS sufferers tend to have a lower level of ‘good’ bacteria.
